05 May-29 Jun

I'm going to mass publish the last few weeks.

5 MAY -- off -- heat and stretching
6 MAY -- off -- heat and stretching
7 MAY -- 27:00 -- 3.00 miles -- 155 elevation gain
8 MAY -- off -- stationary bike for 8 miles
9 MAY -- off -- upper body weightlifting
10 MAY -- off -- Insanity workout
11 MAY -- off
TOTAL -- 27:00 -- 3.00 miles -- 155 elevation gain
Early during this week I strained my piriformis muscle and had terrible pain when running.  I had to stop training and heat/stretch every day with the Athletic Trainer at OCS, which was equally as frustrating as it was helpful.  It got better quick after heat, stretching, and some physical therapy, and I was able to start running shorter distances again the following week.  As I am currently writing this on 5 July, I am happy to report that I have not had any issues with the bloody (not literally) piriformis since early May.

12 MAY -- 18:39 -- 3.00 miles -- 58 elevation gain
13 MAY -- off -- heat and stretching
14 MAY -- 30:00 -- 3.00 miles -- 274 elevation gain
15 MAY -- 30:00 -- 3.00 miles -- 175 elevation gain
16-18 MAY -- 36:00:00 -- 120.00 miles -- 3000 elevation gain (3 Days at the Fair)
TOTAL -- 37:18:39 -- 129.00 miles -- 3507 elevation gain
Clearly, I didn't want to run at all before the 48 hour race.  However, work and training always trumps my personal hobbies, so I unwillingly participated in platoon and company PT runs throughout the week before the race.  Most were in boots and cammies.  The race went well, but it rained for 12 hours straight during the first day, which really lowered morale at a rapid rate.  Tristin and I stopped after 36 hours and decided to drink beer and sleep instead of running through the second night.  Plus, I knew I had another week full of organized PT events at work the next week.

19 MAY -- 40:00 -- 4.00 miles -- 289 elevation gain
20 MAY -- 40:00 -- 4.00 miles -- 594 elevation gain
21 MAY -- 30:00 -- 3.00 miles -- 347 elevation gain
22 MAY -- off -- upper body circuit and muscular endurance course
23 MAY -- off -- upper body development circuit
24 MAY -- off -- stretching
25 MAY -- 55:56 -- 7.72 miles -- 323 elevation gain
TOTAL -- 2:45:56 -- 18.72 miles -- 1553 elevation gain
Again, another week of organized runs and PT events at work.  As expected, I was pretty slow during the first run on 19 May, and I made myself look like a fool.  I was forced to explain my weekend hobby when the boss noticed me walking up the first hill.  Towards the end of the week I got my legs and knees back and got in a decent run on 25 May.

26 MAY -- off -- upper body development circuit
27 MAY -- 31:25 -- 3.01 miles -- 280 elevation gain
28 MAY -- 56:23 -- 7.29 miles -- 357 elevation gain
29 MAY -- 40:14 -- 4.10 miles -- 292 elevation gain
30 MAY -- 45:33 -- 6.42 miles -- 261 elevation gain
31 MAY -- off -- pick up day
01 JUN -- 23:22 -- 3.03 miles -- 172 elevation gain
TOTAL -- 3:16:57 -- 23.85 miles -- 1362 elevation gain
Nothing spectacular this week, just a bunch of short runs to keep in shape.  I picked up my platoon of officer candidates on 31 May, so no PT at all that day.  From 31 May-02 July, I only got in a handful of personal runs in.  Most of that time was spent executing a particular training schedule to include running and other PT events.

02 JUN -- off -- obstacle course
03 JUN -- off
04 JUN -- 32:47 -- 3.30 miles -- 251 elevation gain
05 JUN -- off -- obstacle course
06 JUN -- off -- upper body development course
07 JUN -- off -- rope climbing
08 JUN -- 44:01 -- 6.11 miles -- 353 elevation gain
TOTAL -- 1:16:48 -- 9.41 miles -- 604 elevation gain
Pretty slow week, but work was crazy.  Every day was a 20-hour day this entire week.

09 JUN -- 55:00 -- 2.50 miles -- 42 elevation gain (Muscular Endurance Course)
10 JUN -- off -- martial arts
11 JUN -- 53:45 -- 4.00 miles -- 241 elevation gain (4-mile hike w/45 pound pack)
12 JUN -- off -- martial arts
13 JUN -- off -- combat course
14 JUN -- off -- log drills and upper body development
15 JUN -- 56:04 -- 7.42 miles -- 416 elevation gain
TOTAL -- 2:44:49 -- 13.92 miles -- 699 elevation gain
Another slow week, but just enough to maintain...

16 JUN -- 1:20:00 -- 5.00 miles -- 347 elevation gain (5-mile hike)
17 JUN -- 19:00 -- 1.74 miles -- 145 elevation gain (Obstacle/Stamina Course)
18 JUN -- 53:00 -- 3.79 miles -- 271 elevation gain (Fartlek Course)
19 JUN -- 19:00 -- 1.74 miles -- 145 elevation gain (Obstacle/Stamina Course)
20 JUN -- 1:40:00 -- 6.00 miles -- 597 elevation gain (6-mile hike)
21 JUN -- 54:29 -- 6.85 miles -- 460 elevation gain
22 JUN -- 48:01 -- 6.01 miles -- 406 elevation gain
TOTAL -- 6:13:30 -- 31.13 miles -- 2371 elevation gain
A little more mileage and a significant amount of time on my feet, but most of it was hiking with a pack.  However, time on my feet and mileage = continuous preparation for Grindstone!

23 JUN -- 19:00 -- 1.74 miles -- 145 elevation gain (Obstacle/Stamina Course)
24 JUN -- off -- combat fitness test
25 JUN -- 18:39 -- 3.00 miles -- 58 elevation gain
26 JUN -- off
27 JUN -- off -- martial arts
28 JUN -- 1:00:18 -- 7.21 miles -- 583 elevation gain
29 JUN -- off
TOTAL -- 1:37:57 -- 11.95 miles -- 786 elevation gain
Slow week...

Well, I'm all caught up.  That's all for now.
